January 05, 2026 | The Movement - A Study in Acts by Byron McWilliams
Day 1: The Historical Foundation of Our Faith
Reading: Acts 1:1-3; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8
Devotional: Christianity stands apart from every other belief system because it rests on historical fact, not mythology. Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead, appearing to over 500 witnesses. This resurrection validates every claim He made and every word He spoke. When doubt creeps into your heart, remember that your faith is anchored in verifiable history. The disciples didn't follow a philosophy or a dead teacher—they followed the risen Lord who conquered death. Today, reflect on how the historical reality of the resurrection strengthens your faith. Are you living as though Jesus is truly alive, or have you reduced Him to a moral teacher? The resurrection changes everything. Let it transform how you live today.
Day 2: The Kingdom of God Is Now
Reading: Acts 1:3-8; Luke 17:20-21
Devotional: Jesus spent forty days teaching His disciples about the kingdom of God—not as a distant future reality, but as a present spiritual kingdom. As believers, we are citizens of God's kingdom right now. This kingdom transcends political parties, national borders, and social movements. It operates by different values: love over hate, service over power, sacrifice over selfishness. The question isn't when God's kingdom will come, but whether you're living as a kingdom citizen today. Are your decisions filtered through kingdom values? Does your speech reflect the King? Today, recognize that every moment is an opportunity to demonstrate kingdom life. You don't wait to enter God's kingdom at death—you're in it now. Live accordingly, representing your King in every interaction and decision you make.
Day 3: Called to Action—Your Mission Matters
Reading: Acts 1:8; Matthew 28:18-20
Devotional: "You will be my witnesses" isn't a suggestion—it's a commission. Every believer is called into the mission of making Christ known. Your life should count for something eternal. The early Christians understood this so deeply that they gave everything, risking their lives to spread the gospel. They couldn't be silenced because they had encountered the risen Christ. Today, examine your life honestly: Is Christianity merely a Sunday experience, or does it define your entire existence? Your career isn't your purpose—exalting Jesus is. Whether you're a teacher, doctor, plumber, or student, your mission remains the same: be a witness for Christ. Stop waiting for the perfect moment or the right words. God promises power through His Holy Spirit. Take action today—share your faith, pray boldly, live authentically for Jesus.
Day 4: Transcending Every Barrier
Reading: Acts 8:1-8; Galatians 3:26-29
Devotional: The gospel of Jesus Christ recognizes no barriers. It transcends race, nationality, social status, and political affiliation. When persecution scattered the early church, believers didn't retreat—they preached everywhere they went. The gospel spread precisely because Christians refused to be confined by geographical, social, or political boundaries. Today, we face different barriers: fear of rejection, concern about offending others, or silence in the face of opposition. But truth doesn't change based on cultural trends. If you truly believe Christianity is the hope of the world, you cannot remain silent. Ask yourself: What barriers am I allowing to limit my witness? Fear of man? Political correctness? Social pressure? God's mission is bigger than any human institution or ideology. Stand firm in truth, speak with grace, and refuse to let anything silence your witness for Christ.
Day 5: Divine Power for the Task
Reading: Acts 1:8; 2 Timothy 1:6-8
Devotional: Jesus promised, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you." You are not called to accomplish God's mission in your own strength. Divine power is available to every believer through the Holy Spirit. This power enables ordinary people to do extraordinary things for God's kingdom. The early church turned the world upside down not through political influence or social status, but through Spirit-empowered witness. As you enter this new year, recognize that God has equipped you with everything you need. Prayer is your most powerful weapon. The Holy Spirit is your constant companion. The Word of God is your guide. Stop making excuses about your age, abilities, or circumstances. As long as you have breath, you can serve God's mission. Commit today to live fully devoted to Christ, empowered by His Spirit, fulfilling the purpose He's given you.
Closing Challenge: Christianity is the hope of the world. Will you embrace the movement? Will you make 2026 the year your life truly counts for eternity? The mission is clear. The power is available. The time is now.
