How to Change a Friend’s Life

November 17, 2025 | Daily Devotional | Come and See - Join the Movement by Byron McWilliams
Day 1: Seeing Through God's Eyes

Reading: Ephesians 2:1-3

Devotional:
Before we can truly reach others with the gospel, we must see them as God sees them—spiritually dead and in desperate need of rescue. This isn't a harsh judgment but a sobering reality. Your coworker, neighbor, or family member who doesn't know Christ is walking in spiritual darkness, following the ways of this world, gratifying the flesh, and destined for eternal separation from God. This truth should break our hearts with compassion, not inflate us with pride. Today, ask God to give you His eyes to see the spiritual condition of those around you. Let this vision move you from comfortable silence to compassionate action. Who in your life needs you to see them as God sees them?

Day 2: The Glorious "But God"

Reading: Ephesians 2:4-7

Devotional:
"But God"—two of the most powerful words in Scripture. After painting the dark reality of spiritual death, Paul pivots to the magnificent mercy of our Savior. God didn't leave us in our deadness. Being rich in mercy and motivated by great love, He made us alive with Christ. This wasn't something we deserved or earned; it was pure grace. Notice the past tense: we have already been raised and seated with Christ in heavenly places. Your salvation is secure, not because of your faithfulness, but because of His. Today, meditate on the immeasurable riches of God's grace toward you. Let gratitude overflow into worship. What would your life look like if you truly lived from your seated position in Christ?

Day 3: The Gift You Cannot Earn

Reading: Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 6:23

Devotional:
Salvation is a gift—completely free, utterly undeserved, and wholly sufficient. You cannot work for it, contribute to it, or enhance it with your efforts. The moment you think you deserve it even one percent, you've missed the gospel entirely. God doesn't need your help; He offers His grace. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. This truth should humble us and embolden us simultaneously. We're humbled because we brought nothing to the table. We're emboldened because if God saved us in our unworthiness, He can save anyone. Is there someone you've written off as "too far gone"? God specializes in impossible cases.

Day 4: Love Enough to Speak

Reading: Matthew 22:36-40; Romans 10:13-15

Devotional:
Loving your neighbor as yourself means caring about their eternal destiny. True love doesn't remain silent when someone is heading toward destruction. You wouldn't watch a friend walk toward a cliff without shouting a warning; why would you watch them walk toward eternity without Christ and say nothing? Opening your mouth to share the gospel is an act of profound love. It may feel uncomfortable, even risky. You might fear rejection or awkwardness. But consider this: what is temporary discomfort compared to eternal consequences? Today, pray for one specific person God brings to mind. Ask Him for courage and opportunity to share your faith. Then watch for the door He opens. Will you love them enough to speak?

Day 5: From Darkness to Light—Your Testimony

Reading: 1 Peter 2:9-10; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20

Devotional:
You were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. You were not a people, but now you are God's people. This dramatic transformation is your story—your testimony of God's grace. You've been given the ministry of reconciliation, commissioned as Christ's ambassador to a lost world. Your life is a before-and-after picture of God's saving power. Don't minimize your story or think it's not dramatic enough. Every salvation is a resurrection from death to life. Today, write out your testimony in three parts: what your life was like before Christ, how you came to faith, and how Christ has changed you. Practice sharing it in three minutes. Then ask God to give you an opportunity this week to tell someone about the hope within you.

As you complete this devotional, remember: you cannot change anyone's life, but God can. Your role is to see them as He sees them, value what He makes available, and love them enough to open your mouth. The rest is His work.
